Connecting Instagram or TikTok when you apply to a brand

Why brands ask you to connect your social accounts when you apply, what you need, and what to do if it won't connect.

Written by Ani Gupta

Some brands ask you to connect your Instagram, TikTok, or both when you apply to their affiliate program. Connecting shows them the account is really yours, rather than a handle anyone could type in.

Required or optional?

Each brand decides for itself. If there's a red asterisk (*) next to Instagram or TikTok on the form, that connection is required - you won't be able to submit your application until it's connected.

Without an asterisk, connecting is optional. You can still apply without it, but it gives the brand more to go on when they review your application.

Connecting Instagram

Before you start: your Instagram needs to be a professional account (Business or Creator), connected to a Facebook Page you're an admin of, and you'll need to be able to log in to both. If yours isn't set up that way yet, follow Meta's guide to connecting Instagram to a Facebook Page first.

  1. Click Connect next to Instagram on the brand's form.

  2. Log in to Meta with the Facebook account that manages your Page.

  3. When asked, select the Facebook Page linked to your Instagram, then your Instagram account.

  4. Allow the permissions Social Snowball asks for.

You'll be taken back to the form, with Instagram showing as connected.

Connecting TikTok

Any TikTok account works, so there's nothing to set up first.

  1. Click Connect next to TikTok on the brand's form.

  2. Log in to TikTok.

  3. Authorize Social Snowball.

You'll be taken back to the form, with TikTok showing as connected.

If Instagram won't connect

It's almost always one of these:

  • It's a personal account. Switch it to a professional account (Business or Creator) in your Instagram settings, then try again.

  • It isn't linked to a Facebook Page. Instagram can only connect through a Facebook Page. Meta's guide walks you through linking one.

  • You're not an admin of that Page. Ask whoever manages the Page to make you an admin.

  • The Page or account wasn't selected. In the Meta window, make sure you tick both your Facebook Page and your Instagram account before continuing.

  • You're logged in to the wrong Facebook account. Log out of Facebook in your browser, then click Connect again and log in with the account that manages your Page.

Already an affiliate?

If you're already working with a brand and want to share your content with them, you connect Instagram from your affiliate dashboard instead. See Connecting Instagram with Social Snowball to share content with brands.
